Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

This book presents the urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. Urogynecology has become central to the practice of health care for women. The pelvic floor and the urogenital system are closely interconnected and affect all aspects of what is also called “female pelvic health”. This book is divided into 12 sections which comprises total 64 chapters. The first section deals with anatomy of the pelvic floor, anatomy of urinary bladder, urethra and pelvic ureter, physiology of micturition, nomenclature, pathophysiology of stress urinary incontinence, pathophysiology of overactive bladder, classification of pelvic organ prolapse and pathophysiology of pelvic organ prolapse. Section second covers the neurological evaluation of pelvic floor disorder, ultrasonography in urogynecology, urodynamic study, cystoscopy and hysterosalpingogram (Hsg). Section third discusses the urinary tract infection, stress urinary incontinence—conservative management, overactive bladder—management, overflow urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction, urethral bulking agents, pediatric nocturnal enuresis, chyluria and pelvic organ prolapse. Section fourth covers the rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence. Section fifth provides the anti-incontinence surgery, pubovaginal sling, tension free vaginal tape, transobturator tape and burch colposuspension. Section sixth describes the anterior colporrhaphy, posterior colporrhaphy/ colpoperineorrhaphy, urethrocele repair and culdoplasty. Section seventh covers the sacrocolpopexy, sacrospinous colpopexy, high uterosacral ligament suspension, extraperitoneal high uterosacral ligament suspension and anterior abdominal wall colpopexy. Section eighth discusses the Manchester-Fothergill’s operation, abdominal cervicopexy for prolapsed uterus and Le Fort’s colpocleisis. Section ninth covers the fistula, vesicovaginal fistula, urethrovaginal fistula, ureterovaginal fistula, rectovaginal fistula and radiation fistula. Section tenth describes the scrotalization of labia, clitoromegaly, vaginoplasty, vaginal septum, urogenital sinus, uterine anomaly, tubal reconstructive surgery and uterotubal posterior cornual implantation. Section eleventh covers pregnancy with prolapse and pregnancy with urinary incontinence. Finally section twelfth covers the mesh in urogynecology, perineal injuries and distal urethral stenosis.
